Multiple world record holder athlete, Usain Bolt may have run his last competitive race, but this won’t be the last we see of him.

The weekend saw the last race run by lightning fast runner Bolt who, despite losing to Justin Gatlin in the London World Championships, remains current 100m and 200m sprint world record holder with times of 9.58 seconds and 19.19 seconds respectively.

While the Jamaican has hung up his spikes for the last time, it seems he now has his business shoes on.

Bolt’s trade marks

Over the course of his running career, Bolt has been getting business savvy and has registered a number of trade marks.

Bolt’s portfolio includes a US registration for ‘Usain Bolt’, ‘UB’ and a silhouette of himself in his famous lightning pose. All of his trade marks are registered for a wide range of products including clothing and footwear.

It is likely that Bolt will continue to stay in the public eye and capitalise on his recognition by releasing a wide range of merchandise under his registered trade marks.

Bolt is likely to follow in fellow sportsman’s footsteps, such as Fred Perry and Michael Jordan, who have taken the clothing and sportswear markets by storm.

If Bolt is sensible, he can create a real platform for himself in the merchandise world and exceed all his financial gain as an athlete, creating a long-standing future for himself.

Many sports stars struggle after retirement, but Bolt only seems to be getting started.
