Oliver Tidman, Founder and Managing Director of Tidman Legal has been awarded a ‘Certificate of Merit’ by the Institute of Directors at the Scotland Director of the Year Awards held in Glasgow on 23 May 2019. The Awards highlight the diversity of the business landscape in Scotland, with categories for SMEs to large businesses, charities to the public sector. They also honour those individuals whose creativity, leadership or innovative business practices have led to success for their organisation and the communities they serve.

Oliver is an entrepreneurial leader and intellectual property lawyer, specialising in providing commercial and intellectual property law advice to startups and small businesses in Scotland and beyond, without the need for traditional office premises. He delivers pro-bono advice and acts as a mentor to startups on the RBS Entrepreneur Accelerator, assisting them with their business models and intellectual property strategy. Given the increasingly creative client base of the firm, he has supported local children hospital charities such as Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity and the Teapot Trust with its “doART” campaign.

In 2018, he expanded the firm to working in over 15 different sectors, from the food and drink industry, to tourism and video game studios. Tidman Legal is also adding new services such as TidmanTrack® to strengthen its proposition further in 2019.

Commenting on his award, Oliver Tidman, Managing Director said: “I am delighted to be awarded a Certificate of Merit, which recognises the work that the firm does in helping startups and SMEs in Scotland prosper. We look forward to continuing the work we do in advising our clients in relation to the protection, commercial exploitation and enforcement of their intellectual property in 2019 and beyond.”
