Meet The Business Mentor

business mentoring

As part of the Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce Business Mentoring Programme, our Managing Director is offering his expertise and guidance to mentees so they can go on to develop successful businesses and become leaders of the future.

The Business Mentoring programme aims to pair all members wishing to participate with either a mentee or a mentor. For mentees looking for a mentor, the mentee must have a genuine ambition of business growth and success.

In this article, we will introduce you to Tidman Legal’s mentor to help you get to know him a little bit better.

Meet Oliver Tidman, Managing Director of Tidman Legal

entrepreneur awards

Oliver has been a key leader in technology at Tidman Legal and the company’s growth in the UK. He has worked closely with hundreds of businesses, from start-ups to international corporations, who have come on board with us to secure and commercialise their intellectual property.

Oliver was a Young Leader of the Year finalist for two consecutive years at the Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce Business Awards and a “Service Industries Entrepreneur of the Year” finalist at the Great British Entrepreneur Awards. He is also a mentor on the NatWest Entrepreneurial Accelerator programme, which helps entrepreneurs and small businesses to scale.

Mentoring from home

While mentoring from home is a little different from meeting in person, Oliver believes that mentoring online, from the comfort of our homes, is a great way to connect on a deeper level.

He said: “We are living and working in unprecedented times. When people see you in your natural habitat it adds to the sense of trust that you really need for the relationship to be effective. Essentially it puts them at ease.”

So, what can you expect from a mentorship with Oliver?

“I’m very honest about my mistakes – and that can provide some of the biggest learnings for a mentee.

“If you are a business owner or leader, your everyday life is about mentoring – in the sense of creating an environment where people can thrive, where they feel safe and secure and able to develop.”
